Making Fresh Corn Tortillas From Scratch

Ingredients:

– 2 cups King Arthur Flour Organic Masa Harina

– 1 1/4 cups warm water

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Masa Dough:

   – In a large mixing bowl, combine the Masa Harina and salt.

   – Gradually add the warm water, mixing until a soft dough forms. The dough should be smooth and pliable, similar to playdough in consistency. If the dough feels too dry, add a little more water, one tablespoon at a time.

   – Take one masa dough ball and place it in the center of the tortilla press, on top of the parchment paper.

7. Cook the Tortillas:

   – Carefully peel the flattened tortilla from the parchment paper and transfer it to the preheated electric griddle.

   – Cook each tortilla for about 30-60 seconds on each side, or until lightly browned and cooked through. You may notice small bubbles forming on the surface of the tortilla as it cooks, which is perfectly normal.

8. Keep Warm:

   – As you cook the tortillas, transfer them to a clean kitchen towel and wrap them to keep warm. This helps retain their moisture and pliability until serving.
